The Bad Letter #3

Vince Dowdle

Q

I love the size of your equipment, but that is where we part.

I currently use Trimble R8 model 4 and Model 2 rover receivers. I have old sokkia receivers that work quite well as base receivers with the Trimble R8's as rovers. I would have thought your new receivers could at least do that.

I tried for hours to configure yours to work with my Trimble equipment, and I had no success, even though the settings all appear correct.

UHF
ADL Compatible
TT450S(HW)&Trimtalk450S&Transparent with EOT timeout were all tried
GMSK
9600 AND 4800 were tried
RTK-CMR & RTK CMR+ were tried

If you would have made the "setup" files editable, it would have been a lot easier than making new ones every time.

As a standalone system, it would need to work in all windows using US Survey Feet. All I can get is meters, and lat and long. Perhaps I am missing something. Stake out, let us pick a point from the screen, or the list, and stake it out. Short and sweet., let us make a list of points to stake out by picking off the screen, or off the list, also. Add "setup" files with names we understand, and they should be EDITABLE, so I guy could go right to work with a few changes. Currently, your "setup" files are not editable. The instruction manuals are lengthy. I have used Sokkia, Novatel, and Trimble systems, and speaking from experience, yours could be easier to get going.

I bet your system is one of the most versatile. Perhaps too much so, in some cases.

  1. It would have looked better if you had pre-configured the receivers for certain styles, and routines, rather than un-editable "setup" files
  2. There should be a "start base" routine. "start rover" routine.
  3. You should have a height setting in the base set up and the rover set up for the 1/4" to 5/8" adapter.
  4. What is the height of your wand rod in us feet? You should have that on the rod.
  5. Let us use US SURVEY feet, in all windows and in all read-outs.
  6. We all know the screen is out of alignment or just faulty, it is NOT JUST a visibility issue.
  7. You do not explain the radio settings for ADL, or Satel.
  8. An "escape" key would be nice.

It is important to me that my equipment work universally in US SURVEY FT. It is also very important to have compatible equipment and radios. If the radios are the culprit, Is there a way to use pac crest radios with your receivers?

Javad:
We sent you complete system of base, rover and radio and asked you to test THIS SYSTEM and give us suggestions to improve. Testing with other manufacturer units was not the focus at this point.

Did you not receive the complete system?

You can select US Survey feet in “Units" in the Setup and all will be in US Survey feet. If not, we will correct it.
Setup are editable. “Wizard" edits the current one.

We will add all your other suggestions.

Q

Thank you for your reply. I am truly amazed that you have not only read the email, but have replied to it as well. You obviously care about your product and that is refreshing. That said, I apologize if my remarks came across as negative.

Everyone here is truly impressed by your system, including me. If there is a shortcoming, it is probably mine, in my difficulty understanding it.

I guess I thought of this trial as more of a new purchase scenario, and from a business point of view, when I consider a new purchase, I must consider all of the current equipment that I own, and how the new purchase will fall in place. Please don't hold that against me.

I do understand and appreciate your need for feedback on your system.

Javad:
This program by no means is a sales pitch. In fact we will not offer TRIUMPH-LS for sales unless we get all suggestions and implement them, at least those that we can. I truly appreciate your views and comments. Keep them coming.
