The Good Letter #18

Shawn Billings

First, let me say that the new capacitive touch screen is stunning. I’ve not seen any of the newest screens on other data collectors, however, I think the new LS screen is the best I’ve ever seen – as good as any monochrome screen even. Dad gives his seal of approval as well, which is really saying something. His aging eyes struggle to read a lot of the newer screens on the market. I would say this new screen deserves the Javad logo. Great improvement.

Localizations:
I had great success this weekend testing localizations. I plan to put together some documentation for each method over the next few days. I tested as follows:

Single Point Localization with Known Point in Known Coordinate System: This has been functional for a while, but I tested it again with success.
Multiple Point Localization with Multiple (four) Known Points in Known Coordinate System: This has been functional for a while, but I also tested this again with success.
Multiple Point Localization with Multiple User Points in Unknown Coordinate System: This was the one that has given me trouble in the past. It worked very well with 1.10.3.12289. The page with the Unknown coordinate system updated to the new localization. Great improvement.
Single Point Localization with Single User Point in Unknown Coordinate System rotated to State Plane Grid North: I based this test on a user request (George Yerion). I entered a known coordinate value (for my origin) in a Page set for State Plane. Under Design, I typed in a position (ie 10,000, 10,000). I manually connected the 10,000, 10,000 coordinate under Design to the geodetic coordinate under Surveyed. I looked on the Transform→Factors to get the convergence angle of the geodetic coordinate, copied it to the clipboard and recalled it in the Localize→Setup→Rotation. I now had a system based at ground level, at 10,000, 10,000 rotated to State Plane North.

There are a few items that we’ll need to refine. But overall it worked great for several applications. This is a very good thing. Thank you for the hard work!
